This website is maintained by Dr. Sims of Western Carolina University's Construction Management Program Below is a short bio on the creator of ConstructionEducation.com. Dr. Sims was a graduate student in 1999 and decided that a construction industry information website was lacking and the need for construction managers and trade workers was enormous, so he created the first version of ConstructionEducation.com that has changed slightly over the years. Bio on Dr. Sims Dr. Bradford L. Sims has either worked in or in support of the Construction Industry since receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University's Building Construction Program in May of 1990. Dr. Sims is an Associate Professor and the Construction Management Department Head in the Kimmel School of Construction Management & Technology at Western Carolina University. He is the founder of WCU's Construction Management undergraduate and online Master of Construction Management programs. Dr. Sims and Dr. Capano were also the faculty that attracted a $10.4 million endowment from Joe Kimmel in fall 2005. Prior to joining the leadership team at Western Carolina, Dr. Sims was on a leave of absence from the University of Florida's Building Construction Program working in The Netherlands for the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building Construction (CIB) as their Assistant Secretary General. There he was involved with organizations from all over the world and would travel to support over 50 commissions of experts performing research into all aspects of building and construction. Dr. Sims has been an Assistant Professor in the University of Florida's Building Construction program where he performed research into Lean Construction and worked closely with the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE), was an Educator-at-Large member of the Certified Professional Constructor's (CPC) National Commission, and a regional director for the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC). Before the University of Florida, he was both on the faculty and was a graduate student in Purdue University's Building Construction Program. There he worked on improving Construction Continuing Education Programs and created his website called ConstructionEducation.com that maintains a wealth of construction information. He has been a co-author or author of numerous refereed articles during his time at both universities. Dr. Sims has also worked for three different construction companies.
The last was Cherne Contracting Corporation where he was involved in
Industrial Construction day-to-day field activities at the ARCO refinery
in Southern California. He also worked for Raytheon Engineers in Massachusetts
where he focused on the cost issues of ongoing global projects in Industrial
Construction and worked for Westinghouse Savannah River Site in South
Carolina on waste and environmental construction projects where he focused
on scheduling issues. He has also consulted on special issues such as
Lean Construction with Graycor Construction Corporation in Chicago,
Illinois.
